Call for Papers Beowulf & Circulations
Le texte de Beowulf a été consigné par écrit plus de deux siècles après sa composition orale initiale. Il n’existe qu’un seul manuscrit du poème, mais ce dernier trouve un écho dans Andreas (conservé dans un autre codex) et il circulait dans le cadre d’une économie littéraire orale foisonnante, qui nous est perdue aujourd’hui.
Avec ses épisodes tissés et entrelacés, Beowulf est en soi un lieu de circulation, qu’il s’agisse d’un collier mythique (finalement offert à Wiglaf par le héros mourant), de corps démembrés ou d’épées ornées d’entrelacs, à la suite de corps à corps brutaux, de pillages systématiques ou d’offrandes en cascade.
Son intrigue scandinave, d’une grande antiquité, témoigne des contacts culturels intenses et des circulations à travers l’Europe du Nord au début du Moyen Âge, et est depuis devenue le point de départ et l’argument de nombreuses adaptations, Beowulf se faufilant, tel un dragon, entre genres et médias.
Nous invitons participantes et participants à soumettre des communications de 25 minutes abordant tout aspect de Beowulf et des circulations médiévale et post-médiévale (sources, intertextualités, échos internes, mentions de voyages, adaptations et continuations, etc.) et ce depuis toute approche : linguistique, littéraire, historique…
La date limite pour la soumission de votre proposition (300 mots maximum, plus une brève bibliographie et une petite notice biographique précisant votre votre courriel contact) est fixée au 10 janvier 2026.
